Poster & Banner Making with Photoshop : From Layout to Print

One-day hands-on training course.

Although Illustrator and InDesign are the usual tools for design and layout, Adobe Photoshop is the one-stop-app for creating image-heavy pieces like posters, banners, and even handbills. Working entirely in Photoshop, you have access to all the image effects without having to shuttle back and forth between two applications.

Layers and layer effects blend seamlessly with other layers, selections with other images, image pixels with Smart Objects and vector text. Designers can have much more freedom, and results can be more predictable, especially resolution and color using Photoshop's soft-proofing preview. Using Layer Comps, you can easily come up with several versions of a design without having to create multiple files.

While the class exercises focus on poster making, the principles and techniques can be used for other communication materials that are more reliant on images than on text, such as hanging banners, Web banners, book and CD covers, and photographic illustrations.
